The structure
Under PM Surya Ghar, a residential rooftop system receives ₹30,000 per kilowatt for the first 2 kW, ₹18,000 for the third kilowatt, and the subsidy is capped at ₹78,000 for any system of 3 kW or larger.
So by size
1 kW receives ₹30,000. 2 kW receives ₹60,000. 3 kW receives ₹78,000. And 4 kW, 5 kW, 6 kW or 10 kW residential systems also receive ₹78,000. The cap does not move.
The consequence people miss
The subsidy per kilowatt is highest on the first two kilowatts and stops increasing entirely after the third. A 6 kW system gets exactly the same assistance as a 3 kW one. That does not make a larger system wrong. It means the extra capacity has to justify itself on generation, not on subsidy.
Residential only
PM Surya Ghar is a residential rooftop scheme. A commercial or industrial connection cannot claim it. Commercial premises can still install solar and use KSEB net metering.
How it reaches you
You register on the Government of India National Portal, KSEB issues a feasibility approval, the system is installed and commissioned, KSEB fits a bi-directional meter and inspects, and the subsidy is then credited to the applicant’s bank account. It is not deducted from the invoice up front.
