Off-Grid Solar

Power where the grid doesn’t reach, or can’t be trusted.

An off-grid system is a complete, independent power plant. Panels, charge controller, battery bank and inverter. It has no connection to the DISCOM, so it keeps running whether or not the grid does.

Right for you if

You’ve got a farmhouse, plantation shed, estate bungalow, telecom site or pump with no dependable connection. Or a building where the grid fails often enough that independence is worth more to you than the lowest cost per unit.

How it works

Daytime generation runs your loads and charges the battery. In the evening the battery takes over. Sizing is unforgiving here, so we design to your genuine worst case, which is the longest monsoon spell the site actually sees. An undersized off-grid system leaves you dark on the days you needed it most.

Two things to be clear about

Off-grid costs more per unit than on-grid, and it doesn’t qualify for PM Surya Ghar. Where you have any grid connection at all, we’ll usually recommend hybrid instead, and we’ll show you the numbers behind that advice.

Batteries are the shortest-lived part of any solar system. Plan for a replacement well inside the 25-year life of the panels, and budget for it from the start.

Common questions

How many days of backup should I size for?

For most homes, one day of autonomy plus a conservative generation assumption is the sensible balance. Going beyond two days multiplies battery cost quickly for a case that may arise twice a year.

For a telecom or medical site the calculation is different, and we size it against your actual tolerance for an outage.

Lithium or tubular batteries?

Lithium costs more upfront, lasts substantially longer, takes deeper discharge and needs no maintenance. Tubular lead-acid is cheaper to buy and needs topping up and ventilation.

Over ten years lithium is usually the cheaper of the two. We’ll price both so you can see it rather than take our word for it.
