The lowest cost per unit, and the only route to the subsidy. Right for most homes and most businesses.
An on-grid system feeds your building directly and sends the surplus to the grid. There’s no battery. That’s exactly why it’s the cheapest solar you can buy and the quickest to pay for itself.
Right for you if
Your grid supply is reasonably reliable, most of your consumption happens in daylight, and your priority is cutting the bill rather than surviving outages. That describes the majority of homes in Kochi, Thrissur, Bengaluru and Mysuru.
How it works
Modules on the roof feed a grid-tied inverter, which powers your loads first. Whatever is left over exports through a bidirectional meter and gets credited under net metering. At night you draw from the grid against those credits, and your DISCOM settles the balance.

The subsidy
Residential on-grid systems qualify for ₹30,000 at 1 kW, ₹60,000 at 2 kW and ₹78,000 at 3 kW or above. Off-grid systems don’t qualify at all. That single fact is the biggest reason most homes should start here.
Commercial and industrial systems aren’t eligible for PM Surya Ghar. They use accelerated depreciation instead, which is often worth more. Ask your CA, and ask us for the generation figures to put in front of them.
Common questions
How much roof do I need?
Roughly 70 to 90 square feet of unshaded roof per kilowatt. So a 3 kW system needs somewhere around 250 square feet with clear sky above it.
Shading matters more than area. A small clean roof beats a large roof with a water tank in the middle of it.
How many units will it generate?
As a planning figure, about 4 units per kW per day in Kerala and Karnataka, so a 3 kW system lands near 360 units a month. Your survey gives the real number for your roof, orientation and shading.

Can I add a battery later?
Yes, if the inverter is chosen with that in mind. Tell us at design stage even if you don’t want storage now. A hybrid-ready inverter costs a little more today and saves replacing the whole unit later.
