Which size
Which solar system size suits a Kerala home?
It follows your electricity consumption and your usable roof area, not a package. As a guide, a 2 kW system suits a household billing roughly ₹1,500 to ₹1,900 a month, 3 kW suits ₹2,300 to ₹2,900, and 5 kW suits ₹3,800 to ₹4,800. A survey reads your last twelve months of KSEB bills and measures the shade-free roof area before any size is recommended.
Residential systems are also where the PM Surya Ghar subsidy applies, and the subsidy structure rewards the first three kilowatts most heavily.
A survey confirms this against your actual bills.
Subsidy is highest on the first 2 kW
₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW, ₹18,000 for the third, then a ₹78,000 ceiling. The subsidy per kilowatt falls as the system grows.
Zero advance
You pay nothing to begin. The first payment falls due once there is DISCOM feasibility approval.
Collateral-free finance
Bank finance is available collateral-free up to ₹2,00,000 for residential rooftop systems.
On a Kerala roof
What a home installation actually involves
Tile, concrete and metal roofs each need a different mounting approach. The survey establishes which applies before anything is quoted.

Questions
Home solar, answered
It depends on your consumption and roof area. A survey reads twelve months of KSEB bills and measures usable shade-free roof before recommending a size.
₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW, ₹18,000 for the third kW, capped at ₹78,000 for 3 kW and above, under PM Surya Ghar for residential connections.
Residential rooftop systems qualify for collateral-free bank finance up to ₹2,00,000. We follow the application up with the bank.
Usually yes, because exported units earn net-metering credit. But it is worth discussing load shifting, or a hybrid system if outages matter, rather than assuming the standard answer.
