Should I plan solar into a house I am building?
Yes, and it costs far less to plan for than to retrofit. Three things decided during construction shape what is possible later: roof orientation and slope, whether conduit is run from the roof to the meter position, and whether the roof structure is designed to carry an array. All three are cheap to get right now and expensive to fix afterwards.
Most retrofit compromises we see on Kerala roofs were decided at construction. A roof facing the wrong way, no cable route, a water tank placed exactly where the array should go.

Four decisions, in the order they arise
Orientation and slope
A roof plane facing anywhere from south-east to south-west is what you want. It is free to get right on a drawing.
Run the conduit now
A conduit from the roof to the meter position, decided before plastering, avoids surface trunking later.
Where the tank and units go
Water tanks and outdoor AC units placed on the best solar plane are a common and permanent loss of roof area.
Sanctioned load and phase
If you are likely to want 6 kW or more later, establish the connection type at the outset.

What to ask for on the drawing
Roof
✓ A clear south or south-west facing plane
✓ Tank and unit positions away from that plane
✓ Parapet height that does not shade the array
Electrical
✓ A 25 mm conduit from roof to meter position
✓ Space beside the meter for an inverter
✓ Sanctioned load and phase reviewed before connection
