The short answer

What does solar panel installation actually involve?

Installation is the on-site stage: the mounting structure is fabricated and fixed to your roof, panels are mounted, DC and AC cabling is run, the inverter, DCDB, ACDB and surge protection are installed, an earthing pit is made, and the system is tested before KSEB fits the bi-directional meter and the system is commissioned.

One team does the roof work and the electrical work. That matters because most of the problems that show up later – leaks around fixings, undersized cable, poor earthing – sit exactly on the boundary where two separate contractors would hand over to each other.

Stage by stage

What actually happens, in order

Questions

Installation, answered

For a domestic rooftop system the on-site work is typically two to three days once approvals are in place. The overall timeline is usually driven by the KSEB feasibility approval and meter installation rather than by the installation itself.

It should not, and preventing it is a large part of doing the job properly. On tiled roofs the mounting has to follow the tile profile and preserve the water path; on RCC slabs the penetrations must be sealed correctly.

Yes. One team does the mounting structure and the electrical installation. If a roof needs strengthening or repair first, we say so at survey rather than after.

The system is tested, the KSEB bi-directional meter is in place, monitoring is activated and you are shown how to read your own generation.
